The Gift of Art offers a Creativity Kit with class instruction, a dynamic and fun way to warm up your creativity as you create art to give as a gift or enjoy in your home. All art materials are provided (with the exception of a stapler or scissors). All classes held VIRTUALLY in Studio A. All classes limited to 10 participants

Clay Ornaments
FAMILY WORKSHOP – ALL AGES
Create a keepsake from clay to give as a gift or to decorate your home for the holidays with master potter Lisa Himmelstrup. Once you have created your ornaments, color them with glaze and Lisa will fire them for you. You pick up your completed work at ArtStart or we can ship to you if outside the Twin Cities. A great family activity to ring in the holiday season.

Holiday Cards Inspired by Nature and Poetry
FAMILY WORKSHOP – ALL AGES
Learn how to make 3 different kinds of holiday cards inspired by nature with artist and poet Marie Olofsdotter. Learn folding techniques, the pop-up process, and collaging. In addition, to complete your cards, Marie will help you write your own lines of poetry, celebrating winter and the season of gift-giving.

Holidays at Hogwarts
AGES 6-12 YEARS
The holidays are a magical season. What better time to work with artists Gustavo Boada or Anne Sawyer to create one of the most magical places there is – Hogwarts Castle, the site of so many of Harry Potter’s adventures. Using tubes, cones, cups, mylar, glue and reciting a single spell, “Decorateum Glueioso” you create a magnificent castle to place in your bedroom or home for the holidays!

Beaded Pouch
AGES 9-12 YEARS
Julie Boada of the Fond du Lac people introduces the art of beading. Work with Julie to design your own beaded pouch using felt, beads, and a needle and thread. Note: The project will take more time outside of class to finish.

Quilling

The art of quilling or the coiling and shaping of narrow paper strips to create a design has been around for hundreds of years. Join artist Meg Erke and make your own special quill work to create lovely holiday art works.

Luminaries
AGES 18+
Spark your creativity with artist Jeanette Dickinson and create a festive luminary using recycled glass, Modge Podge and more. Learn different techniques like collage and stenciling. Add a light source and illuminate a special place.

Winter Dreams Journal

With all the materials at your fingertips to make a magical gift for yourself or for a friend, work with an artist to design and assemble an elegant journal in which to draw or write about your winter dreams using lovely papers and embellishments.

Celebrate Solstice!
AGES 18+
Winter is a time of introspection, contrast, and unique beauty. Join naturalist Judy Geck for a walk on our longest night to celebrate the start of the Winter Season. We will explore Highland Park, namesake of the Highland Park neighborhood, at a leisurely pace taking in the nocturnal ambience and artistic inspiration of this wooded landscape by using all of our senses. Be prepared for the weather and bring a flashlight if you have one. Note: This class/kit is
a perfect companion to Winter Dreams Journal, offered Monday, December 20 and the Celebrate Solstice! walk offered Tuesday, December 21 for a
complete art and nature experience.
